I love me some guest bloggers.
Joe is a friend of mine from college. I don't really know what else to say about him as an introduction, except that I think New York is a better place with him in it. -Stan

Some many months ago in my previous home city of San Diego, a touch of drinking was afoot, and I came to be engrossed in a familiar group discussion regarding life goals, personal aspirations and such. (ex: Xbox360, Tent, Motorcycle, Bigboy Bed.) During the course of this period of reflection, I realized that San Diego, (what with its open space, perfect weather, warm oceans, cheap and excellent mexican food, affordable liquor, and all around idyllic beauty) after having been my home for nearly 10 years, was feeling like it had run its course.
Without getting into too much detail, I left San Diego, now live in New York, and it is totally awesome. What follows are some suggestions and comparisons aimed at getting more people that I like a lot to move here, because it is not all that difficult, much as I would have liked to kick that sentence fragment in the balls a few months ago.
To begin, here is a list of comparisons. This may only be helpful if you live in San Diego, but you can use it as a reference no matter where you are:

Okay, so that may have been somewhat nonsensical. But really, it is pretty sweet here. And it isn't hard to move. here is your twelve step guide:
Assuming a 3-4 month lead time:
1) Decide to go.
2) Start talking to people about jobs out here. Call friends, relatives, recruiters in NYC. All you need is something to do to pay the rent.
3) Ask people you know if they want to move in with you in NY. Two people is easy because its nice to know the people you live with, but alternatively there are a lot of people looking for roommates.
4) Get a second job, something on the side that you can use purely for savings. A couple/few months of this should save you a nice chunk of money.
5) Buy a god damned jacket.
6) Arrange beforehand for two weeks of couch-sleeping with people who are there.
7) Give your job one month notice.
8) Have a garage sale and start selling anything you don't absolutely need.
9) Have an awesome party and get loaded.
10) Sell your car. You seriously do not need it, and its just more money in the bank.
11) Pack your bags.
12) Get on the plane.
